DESCRIPTION:Book your place — £35 → \nWe will spend a fun-filled half-day immersed in the world of acrylics for beginners\, which will include impasto techniques. We will establish a base set of acrylic painting skills and then deconstruct and simplify objects and references\, enabling us to capture them in acrylics using thickly laid passages of paint\, either with a brush or a palette knife. \nBy the end of the afternoon\, we will have developed confidence in using acrylics and also applying paint thickly to the canvas\, incorporating some on-canvas mixing and blending\, without creating a muddy texture. We’ll get a bit messy\, have loads of fun\, kickstart a new painting habit (and technique)\, and enjoy cake from the café! What could be better? No previous experience is necessary; a no-excuse price with materials provided! \nThe morning will be filled with fast-paced learning exercises and mini-tutorials to entertain and help you make significant strides in your confidence and control in this interesting and freeing technique. \nImpasto is a technique used in painting\, where paint is laid on an area of the surface thickly\, usually thick enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. Character\, story shape\, the page turn\, and the art that carries it — with a fortnight between each session to draw. \nFridays 09:00–13:00 — 23 and 30 October\, then 6\, 13 and 20 November — at the Cornish Craft Barn. £160 for the series of five\, which is £32 a morning\, and your monthly meet-up is included free. \nWhy a fortnight and not a week. The work happens between the sessions. A week is enough to start a page and not enough to finish one\, and the people who got the most out of the last run were the ones who had time to sit with it. Two weeks is that time. \n\nWeek one\, 23 October — set the scene. Gear up\, get your project files together\, and build them with the rest of the group.\n30 October — develop your work in earnest. Ensure your storybook dummy is complete and work has begun on words and spreads.\n6 November — the monthly meet-up\, included.
