Botanical Drawing & Watercolour Workshop with Claire Armitage

Join artist Claire Armitage for a relaxed, hands-on botanical drawing workshop, exploring drawing and painting from direct observation.

We’ll begin with pencil sketches, looking closely at the structure, form and detail of plants. You’re welcome to bring your own plants to draw, and Claire will also provide a selection. We’ll then develop our sketches into watercolour studies, exploring colour, tone and detail.

Claire’s approach is rooted in close observation and taking time to really look at the natural world, using drawing as a way to slow down and become immersed in the subject. No previous experience is necessary.

What’s provided: watercolour and cartridge paper, pencils, and a simple range of watercolour paints and brushes.

What to bring: your own watercolour paints and brushes if you have them (recommended), and any plants you’d like to draw.

The workshop price includes materials, plus tea, coffee and cake through the day. Lunch is available to buy from our café.
