In this workshop series, we will apply the principles of numerous well-known children’s authors and illustrators, review good practices from our carefully curated library of children’s books, and unlock our creative illustrative skills through weekly explorations with unexpected materials. We will capture a story in a moment, draw from our imaginations, and produce our visuals around a well-crafted narrative.
In this fun and very practical workshop series you will learn how to:
- Look at good practice and picture book types
- Develop a plot structure and storyboard it
- Character development (written and design)
- Character illustration, facial expressions and poses
- Look at writing techniques and styles
- Develop your manuscript
- Create a writer’s dummy
- Develop your page spreads and style
- Explore illustrative techniques and unusual materials
- Design your book cover
- Cover final artwork and book design file for submission
