Learn to Crochet – 4-Week Beginners Course
January 6, 2027 @ 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Learn to crochet from scratch over four relaxed Wednesday afternoons. Starting with how to hold the hook, you’ll build up step by step to reading a simple pattern and finishing your first project to take home.
Sessions run 1.30pm – 3.30pm on Wednesdays 6, 13 and 27 January and 3 February 2027. Small groups mean plenty of one-to-one help, and Emma goes at the pace of the group.

The course
- Week 1 – Hook, yarn and the foundation: holding the hook and yarn, the slip knot, a neat foundation chain and your first basic stitch
- Week 2 – Height and straight edges: turning chains, taller stitches for different textures, and fastening off and weaving in ends
- Week 3 – Working in the round and reading patterns: the magic ring, increasing and decreasing to make shapes, and understanding pattern abbreviations
- Week 4 – Your first project: putting it all together to make a face scrubby, coaster or dishcloth, then finishing and blocking it

About your tutor
Your tutor Emma has been knitting for 56 years and crocheting for 20 – she was taught by her Nan. She grew up in Cornwall, is a member of Bodmin’s Crafty Needles knit and natter group, has taught sessions at the Bodmin library and holds a PTLLS teaching qualification for adult learning. Emma goes at the pace of the group, so whether you fly or need a bit more time, you’ll get plenty of individual help.
This workshop is run by Emma, an independent tutor. Cornish Craft Barn hosts the workshop and takes bookings and payments on Emma’s behalf.
